All Eyes on Kumasi as KNUST Hosts 7th UBaSSA Games This September

Kumasi, Ghana – Excitement is building across the country’s university communities as the 7th Edition of the Universities Basic Schools Sports Association (UBaSSA) Games gears up to take center stage from September 9 to 14, 2025, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Under the theme “Play, Learn, and Grow: Reflecting on Our Journey, Reviewing Our Goals, Resetting for Excellence,” the 2025 UBaSSA Games will bring together basic schools affiliated with Ghana’s major public universities for a week-long celebration of youth athletics, camaraderie, and national talent development.

Participating schools include:

  • University of Ghana (UG)
  • University of Cape Coast (UCC)
  • University of Mines and Technology (UMaT)
  • University for Development Studies (UDS)
  • University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR)
  • University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)
  • Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) – the host

The games will feature an exciting lineup of disciplines such as:

  • Football
  • Table Tennis
  • Athletics
  • High Jump
  • Long Jump
  • Javelin

Since its inception in 2014, UBaSSA has grown to become a cornerstone of youth sporting excellence, particularly for university basic schools not included in Ghana Education Service (GES)-organized competitions. With each edition hosted on a rotational basis, the games have become a platform for grooming young talent and promoting inter-school unity at the national level.

“UBaSSA is more than just a sports competition. It’s a celebration of youth potential, teamwork, and the values of discipline and perseverance,” said the chairperson of the organizing committee.

As anticipation grows for this year’s games, organizers are inviting corporate bodies, institutions, and well-meaning individuals to come on board as sponsors or partners. This is a unique opportunity to support grassroots sports development while gaining visibility across Ghana’s academic and youth sports networks. Interested parties can contact the organizing team at 024 202 3681 or 054 412 6626 for partnership packages and sponsorship opportunities.

With sporting talent, school pride, and national unity on display, the 2025 UBaSSA Games promises to be the most exciting edition yet, reinforcing the role of structured school sports in shaping Ghana’s future athletic icons.
