Tribute to Mr. Herbert Dzako Awuah: A Pillar of Unity and Service in Gbidukor

Mr. Herbert Dzako Awuah, affectionately known as Fo Dzako or Chairman, has left an indelible mark on the history of Gbidukor through his exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication to service.

As the longest-serving co-chairman of the National Steering Committee (NSC) of Gbidukor, he played a pivotal role in steering the organization's activities for two decades. Despite personal tragedies and challenges, his commitment to the collective agenda of Gbidukor remained steadfast.

Fo Dzako's journey in leadership began twenty-one years ago when he was appointed co-chairman of the NSC following the proposal by his predecessor, Dr. W.K. Agble. Despite his initial reluctance due to personal hardships, including the tragic loss of his daughter, Rosemary, Fo Dzako accepted the responsibility, driven by the overwhelming support and encouragement from the community. Throughout his tenure, he worked tirelessly alongside his colleagues to foster unity among Gbis from different geographical regions and to promote cultural heritage and tourism.

Under Fo Dzako's leadership, Gbidukor witnessed significant milestones, including the successful organization of 18 editions of the annual gbidukorza celebrations and advocacy for the establishment of a Gbidukor Arts & Crafts Village at Peki. He also championed initiatives such as the annual arbour day celebrations, aimed at environmental conservation, and played a pivotal role in resolving chieftaincy disputes and revitalizing the Gbi Rural Bank.

Fo Dzako's leadership style was characterized by inclusivity, consensus-building, and a commitment to peace. Despite facing challenges and frustrations, he remained dedicated to the collective welfare of Gbidukor, advocating for patriotism and encouraging youth involvement in community development initiatives.

However, Fo Dzako's unwavering dedication took a toll on his health, leading to two incidents where he collapsed during public events. Despite his declining health, he continued to attend meetings and fulfill his duties, often accompanied by his supportive wife. His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy of service and unity will continue to inspire generations in Gbidukor.

Today, as we lay Fo Dzako to rest, we honor his memory and celebrate his profound impact on our community. His legacy will forever be cherished, and his spirit of selflessness and commitment will continue to guide us in our collective pursuit of unity and progress in Gbidukor.
