In a significant breakthrough for student financing in Ghana, the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has successfully disbursed second-semester loans to 19,703 students across 135 tertiary institutions, marking the first time in four years such support has been extended beyond the first semester.
Earlier this academic year, the SLTF had already disbursed first-semester loans to 38,440 students across 145 public and private institutions. This two-phase financial support demonstrates a renewed commitment by the Fund to ensure continuous academic progress for thousands of students across the country.
According to Dr. Saajida Shiraz, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the SLTF, the achievement was made possible through the critical backing of the GET Fund Administrator, who provided the necessary financial support to meet the Fund’s obligations.
“This milestone reflects our renewed dedication to the students of Ghana. Thanks to the cooperation and timely funding from GET Fund, we are back on track to deliver timely and consistent support,” Dr. Shiraz noted.
The SLTF plays a central role in expanding access to tertiary education in Ghana by offering loans to cover tuition and related academic expenses. Over the years, the Fund has helped thousands of students pursue university and technical education, contributing significantly to Ghana’s human capital development.
Dr. Shiraz assured stakeholders that the past challenges that delayed loan disbursements are now firmly behind the Fund, adding that students can look forward to a more reliable and transparent loan process going forward.
The successful second-semester disbursement brings renewed hope to students and educational institutions alike, reinforcing SLTF’s mission to serve as a dependable pillar in Ghana’s education financing system.
