Ghana can still do better - Patricia says upon return to West African country after 20 years

Patricia Carboni, a Ghanaian born Dutch entrepreneur has made some notable observations about Ghana’s development as she returns to the country after more than 20 years.

Patricia last visited Ghana in the late 90s and is back on a business prospecting trip. Speaking to the Tribune day after her arrival, the half Ghanaian half Jew commented on the growth of the favourite West African Country.

She pointed poor maintenance culture evident in the state of most facilities, and urged  improvement.

“Ghana can still do more. After more than 20 years I would expect lots of improvement. It looks like they don’t care. It really looks like they don’t care,” Patricia said after visiting a few beachfront resorts and facilities in the capital Accra.

“When a facility is well maintained, even when it is small, it will always be packed - everyday it will be packed,” she added.

The entrepreneur however expressed joy over the economic growth of the country and the heavily transformed landscape, calling for an attitude of unity towards the nation’s total development.

“Ghana has changed a lot. I see it has developed a lot. But it's the people. They look like they don’t feel its everybody’s responsibility to make it clean - to make it grow. It's your country, it's your love”.

Ms Carboni condemned selfish mentality and also what she called the “arrogance of Ghanaians in Europe,” saying such stemmed from selfish attitudes.

“There should be that mentality that they need to grow. Ghanaians should bring back ideas from Europe to build their own,” she said.

The businesswoman is in town to source producers and suppliers for her skincare brand, Jed’s Naturals, and has been meeting several individuals and organisations across the local cosmetics value chain.
